We Are Simply Memory & A Quill
#17 Writing Tips & Tricks
“Write what should not be forgotten.” Isabel Allende
Never forget.
Memory is the container of where so many stories are stored.
To choose to dig deep ~ sometimes blindly, at other times with fervoured intent ~ into that realm, is a courageous move.
What do we tell?
The songs of our heart? Our skin’s knowing? Of our joy and contented days?
The grief of loss? The confusion of youth? The ache of that particular time, place, experience, or relationship?
The rage and injustice?
The rituals and the language of what is fading in time’s passage?
The horrors? Even if we want so bad to close our eyes or to turn away.
To capture that moment, like a camera shutter flashing to keep each second.
To be revisited.
To be told over and over.
To teach.
To remember.
To honour.
To give voice where once there was none.
Question: What story lives in the archive of your bones, your belly, your blood, your breath, for you to exhale on to the page?
